Income Potential in General Transcription
by: Karen

Excellent question. A lot of it depends on the type of transcription you do or what companies you contract with and even how much work you take on.

So in essence, if you work for a company or more than one company that pays you about $1.50 to $2.00 per audio minute and you can do 90 minutes of audio per day, five days a week, that's $135 to $180 a day or $675 to $900 per week - gross.

90 min. of audio at an average of four hours of typing per hour of audio may take you anywhere from 6-8 hours or even 10 hours to transcribe, so if you're willing to put in the hours or if you type fast enough to complete 90 min. of audio in less time, you can do extremely well!

I took on a lot of work from one of my contracts during a really busy earnings call season when they were short-handed and I earned a little over $3000 in just two weeks. I was beat by the time it was over though!

Now, if you get into the business of landing your own clients and outsourcing your work to a regular team on a consistent basis, the annual income potential could realistically be up in the six-digit figures.

When you're just getting started however, it's still possible to land a couple of good contracts and some overflow work that could earn you a few hundred a week gross consistently.

I hope this helps and maybe others can jump on in with their opinions.
