Where to Find Work OnlineWhen I've needed to find work online, whether I was looking to do some overflow work or I was looking for a couple of short term gigs, I always used online resources.
I figured I had my local ads running, a YP ad, my mobile billboard on my car, my business cards and flyers, all of that going on locally. But - what about all of the people and businesses outside of my local area who weren't privy to all of the local means of advertising? That's where the Internet comes in and has proven time and again to many transcriptionists to be the lifeblood of their businesses. It's our main resource to finding overflow and gigs in transcription. So whether you're just starting out or looking to build your business or you're just looking for some filler work in between regular client work, these two resources should always help you find work online.
Online Forums What you'll find there are people from all over and in all stages of their businesses and many even crossover from one type of transcription to another depending on their workload or client base. So whether you're looking for overflow or just other people to talk to who understand the business, check out Transcription Essentials. Another very high traffic and highly ranked forum where you may be able to find work online is at the WAHM.com forums. Because this site is open to all types of at-home businesses, sometimes business owners post in the forums that they need a transcriptionist. Other transcriptionists also offer overflow work in the forums too.
Craigslist.com Unforunately there really is no "fast" way to search the craigslist ads. If you try using any shortcuts, you're only shortchanging yourself and you could miss some important opportunities. No one can tell how or where any advertiser is going to list an ad looking for a transcriptionist. So you need to look in a few places and there's really no short cut to it. You just need to take your time and scan ads in several different places. So in each city or you can just pick out some major cities that get a lot of traffic, search under Jobs - Admin/Office and Writing/Editing. Yes, I've come across a good many ads for typists and transcription in the Writing/Editing area so you don't want to dismiss that area. And under Gigs you want to look at ads in Computer and Writing. The bottom line is, there is work out there no matter what the economic trend is at the time. You may need to negotiate pricing or take on some work that might not really like to do, but the work is out there if you take the time and expend the energy to look for it. |
