How to Use Your Email Signature to Advertise

Believe it or not your digital email signature or your "Sig file" is a powerful and free tool to use on a consistent basis. Whether you're corresponding with friends, relatives or potential clients in an email, always use your signature.

Basic email signature templates that compose your Sig file should consist of the following:

  • Your Name
  • Your Company name & logo (if your email program allows graphics)
  • Your contact information (address, phone, fax, website & email)
Now, you can leave your physical address, phone and fax off if you prefer to be contacted only by email. And if your contact information is on your website, people can click on it.

So for example, my Sig file might look like this:

Karen S Musselman
InfoPublisher/Website Owner
The General Transcription Business Guide
Low Budget Fairy Tale Weddings
Email: kjmusselman@comcast.net
There are many different email programs-Eudora, Outlook, Outlook Express, and a variety of web-based email programs like Hotmail.com, Yahoo.com and several others.

Many, if not all, of these email programs allow you to set up a default Signature file that will automatically “sign” your email for you on all outgoing mail and replies.

However, a lot of web-based email programs will only allow text-based signature files with html links but no graphics.
