Digital Dictation/Transcription

I am from the old school when it comes to dictation and transcription. How does the whole digital dictation/transcription scenario work?

The Digital Process
by: Karen

Thanks for your question!

The way the digital process works is that your clients will dictate into a digital recorder instead of a tape recorder.

Digital recorders connect to the computer by a USB cable and the audio files are then uploaded from the recorder to the computer.

There are a couple of ways to get the audio files to you to transcribe. If the audio files are small, say about 10 minutes or less in size, your client can simply email them to you.

For larger files, 15 minutes or more, the easiest way is for the you and the client to transfer the files via an FTP server.

There are also websites that offer free services for the client to transfer files to you. YouSendIt.com and SendThisFile.com are the two most widely used.

On your end, you set up your computer to act as the transcriber unit using ExpressScribe to "hold" your "digital tape" and you now plug your headset and foot pedal into your computer.

Then you simply proceed to transcribe your files the way you do now!
